Many travelers (including U.S., UK, Canada, Australia, and several others) can enter visa-free for short stays up to 90 days within any 180-day period within the Schengen Area. No ETA is currently required for most of these nationalities, but the EU ETIAS travel authorization is planned to be introduced for visa‑exempt travelers, so always check current requirements before travel.

Some travelers must apply in advance for a Schengen visa through a Hungarian consulate or visa center. This usually requires documentation such as proof of accommodation, finances, and travel insurance. Processing commonly takes around 15 days but can vary depending on nationality and season.

Proof of onward destination is sometimes requested by airlines or border control. Have not personally had this happen yet.

Travel insurance is also required for Schengen visa applicants; recommended but not required for other travelers.
